Dear Robert Martin Families,
This evening, the Andover Board of Education voted to hire Matt Cavanaugh as the new principal of Robert Martin Elementary. We are excited to welcome him to the Andover Public Schools team!
Mr. Cavanaugh has served as principal of Clark Davidson Elementary School in Goddard since 2017. He previously spent two years as assistant principal and athletic director at Eisenhower Middle School and five years as a fourth-grade teacher at Apollo Elementary School, also both in Goddard.
A native of Goddard, Mr. Cavanaugh has degrees from Wichita State University and Emporia State University. He has led Clark Davidson Elementary to be a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School and led the expansion of extracurricular activities such as a robotics team and glee club. He and his wife have a daughter, Caroline (12) and son, Harry (10).
Mr. Cavanaugh shared: “I am thrilled to step into the role of principal at Robert Martin Elementary School! As someone who has dedicated my career to education, I’m eager to bring my experience from Clark Davidson Elementary School in Goddard, and my ties to this community to continue to create a welcoming and inspiring environment for students, staff, and families that has already been established at Robert Martin. I look forward to working together to build on the school’s success and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. “
We are confident Mr. Cavanaugh will be an excellent fit at Martin as Ms. Petricek returns to her native Nebraska to be near her fiance.
